Uniform, PE Kit and Equipment

• Navy blue blazer with school badge.
• Plain white shirt with a collar, which can be long or short sleeves (worn with top button done up and shirt tucked in).
• House tie – to be pulled right up to top shirt button, and worn at the correct length.
• Plain black/charcoal trousers (these must be straight leg, loose fitting all the way down the leg. No fashion or casual trousers. No logos, rivets or detail are acceptable).
• Navy blue Charleston style school skirt with at least one pleat at front (worn at knee length
  or within 5cm of the knee).
• Black, grey or white socks or opaque / black tights with no pattern.
• Black leather style school shoes (no boots, sports style shoes, canvas shoes, trainers, high heeled shoes, and no logos or stripes).
• Scarves worn for religious reasons should also be plain, and black or blue.

Please note that all items of uniform listed above are compulsory. All items of clothing should be clearly labelled with the child’s name.

Shorts (from 2023-2024)

We will be permitting students to wear shorts throughout the year, if they choose to, in-line with the following stipulations:

• Smart, black, tailored shorts in fabric similar to school trousers and skirts
• No fashion or casual shorts, including cargo shorts, or shorts with turnups. Shorts with logos, rivets, large external pockets, or other detail are not acceptable.
• Shorts must be within 5cm of the knee.
• The usual expectations around appropriate socks, school shoes, tucking in shirts and wearing blazers will apply.

Black, tailored school shorts of the required length are widely available from many vendors.  The below options were included within our trial and satisfied the stipulated requirements when sized appropriately. 

• Skoolkit – Senior Day shorts, unisex, black, up to size 40, £16.00 - £18.00
• M & S (Boys) – 2pk Boys’ Regular leg school shorts (2-14yrs), £8.00-£12.00
• MS (Girls) – Girls’ Button front school shorts (2-16yrs), £9.00-£14.00

• Outer coats, if worn, should be smart, plain, and free of large logos or designs.  Coats must fit over blazers as blazers are required at all times unless notification has been given to the contrary due to very hot weather.
• Coats worn in PE lessons are permitted in very cold weather, but these must be appropriate for the activity i.e. a sports coat/jacket which should be waterproof
• Please note hooded tops, sweatshirts or any other non-uniform item should not be worn and will be confiscated. Coats should not be worn instead of blazers.

• Students’ hair is expected to be natural in appearance. Hair should be of natural colour. Extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Plain hairbands and hairclips are acceptable.
• Scarves worn for religious reasons should also be plain, and black or blue.

• Jewellery is not allowed apart from one pair of plain ear studs (one stud per ear lobe). No other piercings are permitted, e.g. no nose stud, tongue, eyebrow, lip piercing, etc. retainers, spikes. Expanders are NOT permitted. Clear jewellery is not permitted other than as an alternative to the permitted single pair of ear studs (one stud per ear lobe).
• A watch is permitted, as are school badges.
• Please note that when children sit exams, watches are not allowed.

• A discreet amount of make-up may be worn in Years 10 and 11 only.

• Nails should be of an appropriate length for school. Acrylic nails are not allowed under any circumstances as they pose a health and safety risk.
• Nail varnish is not permitted and students will be asked to remove this with consequences applying for repeat offenders. 

• Students are required to have a school bag big enough to carry their schoolbooks and equipment. A rucksack or messenger bag is usually ideal. Students will also need an appropriate bag for transporting PE kit.

Students should bring the following equipment to support their learning. As a minimum they require:

• Student planner (this will be issued in September)
• Two pens
• A pencil, with eraser or a separate eraser
• A ruler
• A scientific calculator (similar to the Casio FX-85GTCW scientific calculator) 
• Protractor
• Pair of compasses
• A fiction book for reading in reading periods.
• A dry erase A4 whiteboard and a whiteboard pen. The whiteboard must be a minimum of A4 size, must be wipeable and rigid so that it can easily be read for activities in class.
  
• A glue stick

Equipment is regularly checked in tutor time and consequences apply where a student does not have the correct equipment with them.

Confiscation applies to mobile phones, electronic devices, non-school uniform items, or jewellery.  Mobile phones or other electronic devices must not be visible or used on the school site during the school day. However, we understand that students may need to carry phones to and from school for safety reasons. Students’ phones must be switched off and put in their bags before they enter the school site. They must not be taken out and switched on until the bell at 3:10pm in the afternoon. 

In general, if a student has an item confiscated this will be logged. 

The normal procedure is: 

• The member of staff takes the item. 

• The staff member tells the student they can collect it at the end of the day from Reception. 

• The staff member notes the child’s name and informs reception and hands in the item. 

• Reception staff log the item as a Uniform or a Personal Technology offence on SIMS. 

• The student collects the item at the end of the day. 

Please note, students will not be let out of lessons early to collect items from reception. 

Please refer the procedure below for repeat offences: 

Mobile Phone/Personal Technology/Non-uniform Item 

1st Offence – Item to be collected by student from reception at the end of the day.  

2nd Offence – Item to be kept at school for 24 hours. Parents to collect at the end of the following day from reception. 

3rd Offence – Item to be handed in at the beginning of each day for a week to Reception. This arrangement will be monitored by the Head of Year. 

Any subsequent confiscation will result in the student being banned from having their phone or other items in school. 

Any Prohibited Items found in students’ possession will be confiscated. These items will not be returned to students. Prohibited items (as defined by DfE guidance and the school) are: 

• Knives or weapons 

• Alcohol 

• Energy drinks 

• Illegal substances 

• Stolen items 

• Tobacco, cigarette papers, vapes and/or other related paraphernalia. 

• Fireworks 

• Pornographic images 

• Any article a staff member reasonably suspects has been, or is likely to be, used to commit an offence, or to cause personal injury to, or damage to the property of, any person (including the student)

• Royal Blue Polo Shirt with school badge (Collar, 2-button fastening, no pocket)
• Dark Navy Blue ¼ Zipped Top (no large logo or badge)
• Dark Navy Blue Football Shorts (no large logo or badge)
• Knee Length Royal Blue Socks
• Football Boots (plastic-studs, not blades, dimpled or flat soled)
• Trainers
• Gum Shields for Rugby (available from PE dept)

• Dark Navy Blue Leggings
• White, Black or Navy Under skins / Thermal layer
• Alternative mid-calf white socks (for indoor or summer activities)

For indoor activities, students are able to wear mid-calf white socks. All outdoor activities must have the royal blue socks.

We are very proud of our 3G pitch and this fantastic facility really does benefit both school and the local community. We are immensely fortunate to have received a grant for the latest, high quality, all weather pitch that is the most accurate simulation of playing football on real grass available at the time of installation (2019).  The suitable footwear must be worn by users all the time in order to maintain the surface and prevent injuries.

Only plastic studded footwear can be worn. In particular, an Artificial Ground (AG) boot is perfect for 3G turf thanks to its conical studs. These allow the boot to move and rotate freely, without damaging the surface. They offer good grip and often the studs are hollowed out to keep them lightweight and allow them to absorb impacts. It is also possible to wear firm ground football or rugby boots with round plastic studs. These are particularly attractive as they are multi-functional and can be used on both 3G and natural pitches. If purchasing or using this type of boot, a reinforced toe is recommended as boots wear faster on this surface.   Please note that footwear that is used on grass and 3G surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned before being used on the 3G surface.  This prevents mud contamination. It is not possible to use metal studs, bladed studs or ‘Astroturf’ trainers or boots on the surface. Blades are also completely unsuitable for 3G pitches. We have also been advised not to allow dimpled or flat-soled indoor shoes as they are likely to leave the player unprotected and can be slippery on artificial surfaces.
