Exceptional Exam Results 2018
Exceptional results for TCS Year 11 - 78% 9-4 Eng & Ma, 60% 9-5 & 20% 9-7. Well done everyone!
We are immensely proud that Testbourne students have again achieved exceptional GCSE results against a backdrop of significant national changes to qualifications. 45% of students achieved the new top grades 9-7 (A*/A equivalent) in either English or Maths, with 20% achieving 9-7 in both. This is more than double the number of students achieving the top grades last year. Incredibly, 12 students achieved the highest grade possible, grade 9, in English Literature with 10 achieving the same in Maths and 7 in English Language. 71% of year 11 achieved a ‘strong’ pass of 9-5 in English, with 66% achieving the same benchmark in Maths. An impressive 60% of students achieved a strong pass in both subjects combined and 78% of students achieved the ‘standard’ pass of 9-4, which is equivalent to the former A*-C grade.
Other subjects have enjoyed similar successes; most notable were Computer Science, Geography, Spanish, Drama, Music, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in which over 35% of students achieved the top grades 9-7. 100% of BTEC Dance students achieved a level 2 pass or higher (equivalent of A*-C). Students outperformed last year’s results in almost all subjects.
An impressive number of students achieved the new highest grade 9, which is equivalent to the top end of a former A* grade. Most notably, the following students achieved 9s across multiple subjects: Gemma Bailey (9 x 9s, 1 x 8), Laura Leigh (8 x 9s, 1 x 8, 1 x 7) and Nat Hawrylak (8 x 9s, 2 x 7s).
Headteacher, Jon Beck, said, “I feel tremendously privileged to be the Headteacher of TCS and to have witnessed the wonderful achievements of our students. This cohort of students has experienced the most turbulence in the qualifications system in a long time and have coped admirably to produce a wonderful performance and experience well-earned success.”
