Uniform & PE Kit

Wearing our school uniform means that students become valued members of our school community and feel a sense of belonging and pride. Please find below the uniform expectations for all students by selecting the heading for more information. These will be strictly applied so please ensure that the correct uniform is always worn.

Uniform Update - Summer 2020 - Please note that we are making some slight changes to our uniform and PE kit for our new Year 7s starting in September 2020. The logo on the school blazer, jumper and PE kit is changing from a yellow/gold colour to white and the tie colour has also been adjusted to reflect the change in colour scheme. We are very proud of our smart uniform and PE kit, and this small change in branding has been made to match the updated school logo.  We have decided to introduce this change in a phased way so that parents and carers of existing students are not financially penalised or inconvenienced. This means that the change in uniform and PE kit only applies to incoming Year 7 students and new starters in future years, so will not affect current students. Existing students (Year 8 – 11 in September 2020) can continue to wear their current uniform and PE kit until they leave Testbourne Community School. The existing legacy styles are still available from our suppliers, so for the time being if you are replacing your child’s uniform or PE kit you should buy one to match the existing style. School ties for existing students need to be ordered through the school and not Skoolkit as they are no longer manufactured and sold by Skoolkit.  Please note that the new ties will not match the legacy blazers and the new blazers will not match legacy ties. For further information, see our FAQs document at the bottom of this webpage.

  • Coloured nail varnish is not permitted and students will be asked to remove this with sanctions applying for repeat offenders.

School bag

Students are required to have a school bag big enough to carry their schoolbooks and equipment.  A rucksack or messenger bag is usually ideal.  Students will also need an appropriate bag for transporting PE kit.

* For indoor activities, students are able to wear mid-calf white socks. All outdoor activities must have the prescribed royal blue socks.

** These items can be worn instead of the Testbourne Navy Shorts.

All piercings must be removed (as opposed to being taped over). This is in line with national governing body health and safety requirements. This means that the only time with a 6-week rest period is at THE VERY START of the summer holidays.

All School Uniform and PE kit should be clearly labelled at the start of the year, this means labelling every single item. If done in fabric pen, it may need to be refreshed throughout the year. This will ensure that any lost kit is easily returned.

Participation in PE

  • If a student cannot participate in PE through injury or illness, kit must still be brought in, and they must have a note written by a parent/guardian that outlines the reason for non-participation.
  • It will be up to the member of staff whether changing is required. If changing is difficult then they will be able to stay in uniform; possible examples include:
    • Casts for broken bones
    • The use of crutches
  • Students not participating in PE will generally still get changed into PE kit, and help out in other ways, such as coach, referee or scoring. By wearing PE kit they keep their uniform clean and dry. It is not possible for students to be in a different location for their PE lesson, so they must still be with their class.

3G Pitch Footwear

We are very proud of our 3G pitch and this fantastic facility really does benefit both school and the local community. We are immensely fortunate to have received a grant for the latest, high quality, all weather pitch that is the most accurate simulation of playing football on real grass available at the time of installation (2019).  The suitable footwear must be worn by users all the time in order to maintain the surface and prevent injuries.

Only plastic studded footwear can be worn. In particular, an Artificial Ground (AG) boot is perfect for 3G turf thanks to its conical studs. These allow the boot to move and rotate freely, without damaging the surface. They offer good grip and often the studs are hollowed out to keep them lightweight and allow them to absorb impacts. It is also possible to wear firm ground football or rugby boots with round plastic studs. These are particularly attractive as they are multi-functional and can be used on both 3G and natural pitches. If purchasing or using this type of boot, a reinforced toe is recommended as boots wear faster on this surface.   Please note that footwear that is used on grass and 3G surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned before being used on the 3G surface.  This prevents mud contamination. Please see the links below for examples of suitable footwear:

Kipsta Agility Boot
Kipsta Agility 500 FG
Adidas Goletto

It is not possible to use metal studs, bladed studs or ‘Astroturf’ trainers or boots on the surface. Blades are also completely unsuitable for 3G pitches. We have also been advised not to allow dimpled or flat-soled indoor shoes as they are likely to leave the player unprotected and can be slippery on artificial surfaces.
