Medical Information
If a student becomes unwell during the school day, they should inform their teacher who will assess if it is an emergency and then call a First Aider to the room.
If the student is not well enough to remain in school, a parent or legal guardian will be contacted to collect them.
In the case of serious illness or injury requiring urgent medical assistance, we will call 999 and notify parents/guardians as soon as possible.
If your child is suffering from vomiting or diarrhoea, they must remain off school for 48 hours following the last episode. Please inform the school each day of their absence by emailing absence@testbourne.school.
For further information about attendance, please visit: Attendance - Testbourne Community School
Medical Needs
Please ensure that the school has an up-to-date record of your child’s medical needs to enable appropriate support.
We work closely with:
- The school nursing team, who offer appointments by request via studenthealth@testbourne.school and confidential advice via text to 07507332160.
- Specialist nurses from Hampshire Hospitals in paediatric diabetes, epilepsy, and asthma.
To discuss medical concerns or conditions, please email admin@testbourne.school to be referred to the relevant staff member.
Medication at School:
- Students are not permitted to carry medication during the school day (exceptions for life-saving medication).
- Medicines must be handed in to Reception at the start of the school day and will be securely stored in the first aid room.
- A consent form must be completed by a parent/legal guardian when medicine is brought into school (see below).
- Prescribed medication should be in its original packaging with the pharmacy label showing the student’s name and dosage.
- Antibiotics prescribed three times a day or fewer should be taken at home — before school, after school, and at bedtime — and should not be brought into school.
Life-Saving Medication:
(e.g. inhalers, adrenaline auto-injectors, insulin)
- Students must carry their life-saving medication with them at all times.
- Students are encouraged to keep a spare in the medical room - clearly labelled and with a long expiry date.
- Failure to bring emergency medication on school trips may result in the student being unable to go.
- The school has spare emergency ‘Anaphylaxis’ and ‘Asthma’ kits.
Immunisations Throughout the Year:
- Nasal Flu Programme – all year groups.
- Teenage Booster (Diphtheria/Tetanus/Polio and Meningitis ACWY) – Y9 - including catch up sessions Y9-11.
- HPV (human papillomavirus) – Y8 - including catch up sessions Y8-11.
